Diemme has always been committed to creating high-quality chairs for office, commercial and residential settings. But an even bigger goal guides us every day: a sustainable and environmentally friendly future.
Here’s how we are working to achieve this goal directly through the words of Diemme’s environment department manager.
ISO 14001: OUR MOST RECENT CERTIFICATION ACHIEVEMENT
ISO 14001 certification is much more than a medal to display: it is a tangible demonstration of our commitment to the environment and the future. There are many reasons why we chose to go down this route.
On the one hand, there is the desire to be fully in step with market needs. We are acutely aware that our clients actively seek partners who have corporate policies oriented towards environmental considerations, and we intend to be precisely that trusted partner. After all, sustainability is not a trend: it is the basis on which to build our future.
Furthermore, the choice to become ISO 14001 certified is the result of our vision aimed at sustainable expansion. Designing in a responsible way is a challenge that we have embraced for years and our vision goes far beyond the present. We really want to create solutions that last over time and have a positive impact on our planet.
Our main objective is to lay solid foundations for making future decisions and commitments and this is precisely why we constantly monitor our ESG (Environment, Society and Governance) objectives. For Diemme, sustainability is an integral part of our business strategies: this is why we work towards a sustainability balance sheet, LCA (Life Cycle Analysis).
ISO 14001: THE IMPLEMENTATION PROCESS
The implementation of the environmental management system compliant with ISO 14001 involved many phases and challenges. It all started with an in-depth environmental analysis to understand our current situation with respect to the environment and the environmental performance at our operational site.
We then faced the challenge of designing sustainable products. A prime example: our new chair coming out soon (still under wraps at time of writing) developed with great attention to the origins of the materials.
Seat and lumbar support are made of polypropylene obtained from 98% recycled material, 100% of which comes from industrial waste; backrest and headrest are made of polyamide obtained from 68% recycled material of which 100% is industrial waste; the wood of the seat is certified and the tracking of the material is guaranteed according to principles and criteria of good forest management.
We will be able to tell you more soon!
OPERATIONAL IMPACT: HOW HAS ISO 14001 CERTIFICATION IMPACTED DAILY OPERATIONS?
This certification has positively influenced our daily operations. Our production staff now manage waste even more carefully, and both plant and machinery are regularly maintained regularly ensure operational efficiency.
We have also organised meetings with all collaborators to raise awareness of environmental issues and reduce waste of non-renewable resources. Furthermore, the design and construction of environmentally friendly finished products are a priority: this is why we try to encourage the use of recyclable components and materials.
To achieve concrete objectives we have also decided to involve our suppliers and shareholders. This is why we have chosen new suppliers who follow sustainable policies, and we involve existing suppliers in compliance with environmental legislation. Furthermore, we have opted for electricity supply partners who produce energy from renewable sources.
CONTINUITY WITH OTHER CERTIFICATIONS
ISO 14001 certification integrates perfectly with our ISO 9001 Quality Management System.
